Dental Crowns

A tried and true dental treatment, a dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth in order to restore its size, shape and strength (WebMD). Contrary to a dental filling, which seals in crevices of a tooth, a crown encases the entire visible portion of a tooth’s structure, and dramatically improves its appearance. With great versatility, dental crowns may be used in the following situations:

  • To protect and restore a weakened or cracked tooth (perhaps from injury or decay)
  • To reshape a tooth that is broken, worn down or severely discolored
  • To support a tooth with a large filling, when very little original tooth structure remains
  • To support a dental bridge
  • To cover a dental implant

Traditionally, the process of placing a dental crown would require two visits to the dentist. Yet, given the latest advancements in dental technologies using CEREC, Dr. Leia Porcaro at Grateful Dental offers patients the opportunity to receive a custom crown in one single visit.

Custom Dental Crowns In One Day With CEREC

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and utilizes a CAD/CAM or computer-aided design manufacturing method. In short, this means that a dentist can take 3-D images of a tooth, design a digital model for a crown and actually fabricate the crown on-site. The crown is milled from a ceramic block that is based precisely on the model obtained, and is matched to the natural color of a patient’s teeth. Finally, the new restoration is bonded to the tooth. From start to finish, the entire process is completed in less than 20 minutes!

Like a traditional crown, CEREC dental crowns are purposed for teeth that are significantly decayed or misshapen. Similarly, a patient might be recommended for root canal therapy if necessary. Even so, a CEREC crown provides an enormous advantage for patients in regards to comfort and fit, and of course, time.

At Grateful Dental, we combine the latest dental technologies with compassionate patient care to ensure that patients have a rewarding experience and result that they are proud of. To schedule an appointment, call today!
