Children’s Dental Care

Importance of Children’s Dental Care

It is important to educate yourself on proper children’s dental care for infants, toddlers and children. From a very early age, it is important to have healthy teeth and gums. Starting a daily brushing and flossing routine with your children from the time their teeth begin to come in will help set them on a path for good oral health.

Share how important it is to have healthy teeth with your children. Try talking to your kids about all of the roles our teeth play. Teeth are more than just a pretty smile. Teeth help us chew our food through biting and tearing. Our teeth actually help us speak. It would be difficult to say many words without your teeth. There are many letters in the alphabet that cannot be formed or spoken without using your teeth.

It is a good idea to bring your child to a pediatric or family dentist who can cater to a child’s dental needs. Parents, along with a helpful dental hygienist can show a child the proper way to brush and floss their teeth. Encouraging brushing at least twice a day, or after every meal is a great start. Explain to children how eating sugary or starchy foods in between meals can damage their teeth. Healthy snacks or natural food are much better for your health and your teeth.

Good oral health can never start too early. Eating a healthy diet and maintaining daily brushing and flossing is important for children and adults alike. Regularly scheduled dental cleanings and checkups are vital for children’s dental care and dental health.
